We are a voluntary, not for profit organization set up and run by people with a common interest and love for Piebald and Skewbald horses. It is our aim to further increase the status and recognition that this breed type deserves.
The IPSA
was founded in 1993 as an Irish Branch of The BSPA by Doug Lock (RIP) and Jack
O'Sullivan. In the ensuing years Doug Lock persuaded the Irish Dept. of Agriculture
to recognize Coloured Stock as a European Breed Type which raised the status
of Piebald & Skewbald horses and ponies.
The IPSA opened the door to getting Coloured Classes in the Rural Shows and
the Fermoy show in County Cork was the first to hold a members only class in
Ireland.
In November 2001, due to other commitments, Doug stood down as Chairman. Taking up the "reins" Claire Flaherty with many years experience in the equine industry and owner of the Skewbald Stallion "The Pied Piper" was elected Chairperson.
In 2003 The Irish Piebald & Skewbald Association Ltd was formed with Claire Flaherty as CEO, and after much effort we at last achieved official recognition from the EU and Irish Dept. of Agriculture as a Passport Issuing & Stud Book Authority and establish ourselves as a totally separate organization from The BSPA, exclusively serving Irish Registrants.
We are now working tirelessly to promote this association and breed. Initiatives like this new web site, sponsorship of coloured classes at local and national shows, compulsory micro chipping of all registered stock and random DNA typing is further promoting this breed to the benefit of all our registrants.

Please do call in on our new sister site where you will find great equine products and unbeatable value!
